About PEF Federal Credit Union
The Formation of the PEF Federal Credit Union.
Founded in 1957, PEF Federal Credit Union has been in business for more than 50 years. We are a growing credit union with assets close to $30 million. We offer all banking-type financial services to our members. PEFFCU began as Picker X-ray Credit Union. Due to the business climate, the Credit Union Board of Directors decided that for the Credit Union to keep up with the business world, we needed to expand our core group. We have extended our service area to Eastern Cuyahoga County: anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school on the east side of I-77 is eligible to join.
How is PEF regulated?
PEFFCU operates under a federal charter, and our books and records are inspected regularly by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government. State and federal law and regulations assure that all credit unions operate within defined guidelines.
Credit unions are also required by law to have regular examinations of their records and operations by an independent source, with the findings reported to the board of directors.
Who can join PEF?
Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in the eastern half of Cuyahoga County (East of I-77), is eligible for membership. In addition, anyone who is related to a current PEFFCU member is also able to join. Remember, once a member always a member, even if you move.
Safety you can trust
At PEF Federal Credit Union, accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the federally regulated National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). We observe rigorous guidelines for operational safety and we don't invest in commercial loans, junk bonds, derivatives or other risky investments. All members of our Board of Directors are fellow credit union members who serve on a volunteer basis to set the long-term direction of the credit union and to ensure that prudent operational policies are maintained.
